Lalum and Mendiola To Attend WNBA Training Camps

April 22, 2004

SEATTLE - Former Washington women's basketball players Andrea Lalum (Bozeman, Mont.) and Giuliana Mendiola (Lake Forest, Calif.) have been invited to attend WNBA preseason training camps. Lalum will participate in the Seattle Storm camp beginning, Monday, April 26, while Mendiola will head to her native state of California to attend the Sacramento Monarchs camp that begins Sunday, April 25.

Both WNBA training camps will run through May 19, with the regular season opening on May 20. The Seattle Storm opens the season at home versus the Minnesota Lynx, while the Sacramento Monarchs open at the Phoenix Mercury.

Lalum and Mendiola culminated their Washington careers in March, leading the Huskies to their fourth-straight postseason appearance and a run to the second round of the WNIT. As freshmen in 2001, the pair led the Huskies to the NCAA Elite Eight. Both were All-Pac-10 first-team selections this season, which was also the third-straight first-team honor for Mendiola.

The Husky duo etched their names in Washington's career record books, with Mendiola ranking first in assists and second in scoring. Lalum finished her career 11th in scoring and second in blocks. Both also ranked in the Top-10 list for three-point shooting percentage, three-pointers made and three-pointers attempted.
