Huskies To Host San Diego In WNIT Quarters Sunday
March 22, 2012
SEATTLE -- The WNIT run continues for the Washington women's basketball team, and this time the Huskies are back at home with a berth in the semifinals at stake. The Huskies (20-13) will host San Diego this Sunday at noon after the Toreros went into Lubbock and defeated Texas Tech, 60-51, on Thursday evening. USD is a burgeoning program in the West Coast Conference, having authored a 25-8 record this season, including three straight wins in the WNIT. Morgan Woodrow led the Toreros with 17 points and nine rebounds against the Red Raiders, and helped improve San Diego's record to 10-4 in road games. The senior forward came into the game against TT averaging 12.9 points per contest. The Toreros had two common opponents with Washington this season, defeating both Cal Poly and Seattle University in non-conference play. Should the Huskies win this weekend, they would face the winner of the Oklahoma State and Colorado, which would be played on Sunday afternoon in Stillwater, Okla. That game is tentatively scheduled for either March 28 or 29 at a location TBD. Washington gained entry into the quarterfinals with a 55-49 win at Oregon State on Tuesday night, avenging a regular-season sweep by the Beavers. |
