Davis, Kingma Highlight UW Pac-12 Award Winners
March 5, 2013
WALNUT CREEK -- Washington was well represented as the Pac-12 announced the conference's postseason awards. Jazmine Davis and Kristi Kingma earned All-Pac-12 honors, while Talia Walton was named to the All-Freshman Team and Aminah Williams the All-Defensive Team.
For Davis and Kingma it was the second all-conference selection for each. Davis made all-conference last season when she was also the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, while Kingma was named to the All-Pac-10 team for the 2010-2011 season.
Davis finished second in the conference in scoring at 19.2 points per game and will finish her sophomore season with more points than any Husky through two years. She scored a career-high 37 points at USC earlier this season, which was the fifth-most in UW history.
Kingma broke her own school record for 3-pointers in a season with 83 so far. She also set the Pac-12 record with 11 3-pointers in a win over Oregon. Kingma surpassed 1,000 points for her career and is currently tied for 13th on the Huskies all-time scoring list.
Earning All-Freshman Team honors was Walton, who was also named honorable mention All-Pac-12. Walton burst onto the scene for the Huskies this year, averaging 14.1 points and 7.4 rebounds in conference play.
Finally, Williams was named to the conference's All-Defensive Team after finishing fourth in the league in rebounding at 10.7 per game and leading the Dawgs in steals with 65. Standing just 6-0, Williams has carried an undersized Washington team on the glass through her athleticism and hustle. Her 310 rebounds so far this season is the fourth-highest single season mark in UW history.
Chiney Ogwumike of Stanford was named both the Pac-12 Player of the Year and the Defensive Player of the Year. Tara VanDerveer of Stanford was named Coach of the Year, while Arielle Roberson of Colorado won the Defensive Player of the Year.
Washington begins play in the Pac-12 Tournament Thursday night at 8:30 p.m. against Oregon. The Dawgs were 2-0 against the Ducks and now will play for a third time at KeyArena.
