Kelsey Plum Named McDonald's All-American
Feb. 14, 2013
SEATTLE -- Washington signee Kelsey Plum added to her list of postseason awards today when she was named a McDonald's All-American. The honor gives Washington two-straight recruiting classes headlined by McDonald's All-American as Plum joins Katie Collier from a year ago.
Plum had already been named an All-American by the WBCA, but now adds the most noteworthy honor given to high school seniors. Plum was one of 12 players on the West roster that will face the East on April 3.
Plum is in her senior season at La Jolla Country Day high school in the San Diego area. She set a school record with 51 points in a game earlier this season, breaking the record of WNBA star Candace Wiggins. Plum led La Jolla Country Day to the state title a year ago, scoring 32 points in the championship game.
Also nominated to be McDonald's All-Americans were Washington's other two incoming recruits, Brianna Ruiz and Chantel Oshahor. Neither ended up being selected as a McDonald's All-American, but to have all three considered show the strength of the incoming class at Washington.
Plum was one of just three Pac-12 recruits to be named to the McDonald's All-America Team. She is the second McDonald's All-American to come to Washington after Collier became the first last season. This is the 12th season that a McDonald's All-America Team has been selected for girls.
