Washington Game Notes
| VIDEO: McGuff Press Conference
Washington is jetting off to the desert, where it will take on Arizona State at Wells Fargo Arena on Thursday, Feb. 16. This is the second go-round for both teams, and revenge is on the mind of the Huskies (13-10, 5-8) after ASU pulled away from a 57-53 win at Alaska Airlines Arena last month.
The Sun Devils (16-8, 7-6) return home after a split at the Rocky Mountain schools, ending with a 60-47 win at Colorado. Despite playing under interim coach Joseph Anders, the Sun Devils continue to emphasize aggressive man-to-man defense and athleticism.
Both teams still have plenty to play for, particularly in a jumbled Pac-12 Conference. ASU currently sits in a tie for fourth while the Huskies can vault past several teams with a solid road trip.
Broadcast/Media
For regular season and postseason games, 13-year veteran Steve Sandmeyer handles all play-by-play duties for the Washington Huskies - both home and away - on KKNW 1150AM. Sandmeyer is once again joined by color analyst (and former UW letterwinner) Elise Woodward for home games.
The pregame show with Sandmeyer, coach Kevin McGuff and a select student-athlete will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Live stats for the game will be available on GameTracker. Fans can also participate in an interactive chat with injured Huskies superstar Kristi Kingma during the game on gohuskies.com.
Husky Storylines
Regina Rogers scored 16 points and pulled down seven rebounds vs. Oregon State. The senior is just 35 points away from reaching 1,000 for her career, which has spanned two universities.
For the first time this season, the Huskies have a new leading scorer. After totaling 20 points against OSU, Jazmine Davis now leads the Dawgs with 16.0 ppg. It was the seventh time (all in Pac-12 play) Davis has scored 20 points or more this year.
Washington is just 87 points away from equaling their scoring total from all of last season.
Forty nine percent of the Husky scoring (64.7 ppg) has come from Davis and Rogers this season.
Washington is just 4-6 away from Alaska Airlines Arena this season.
The Huskies have played in eight games that have been within one possession in the game's final minute. UW is just 1-7 in those contests.
UW allowed the Beavers to shoot 52 percent from the floor on Jan. 11, the highest percentage for a Washington opponent this season.
One more victory will give the Huskies their most since the 2006-07 season, when they won 18.
Other UW Quick Hitters
Jazmine Davis is the highest-scoring freshmen (and fourth highest-scoring player) in the Pac-12 Conference with 16.0 ppg. Davis is fourth in the league with 45 3-pt FGs made.
Regina Rogers is sixth overall in scoring (15.9 ppg) and second in the league in FG percentage, making 60.5 percent of her attempts. Rogers is seventh in the Pac-12 in rebounding with 8.3 boards per game. Her 3.4 offensive rebounds per game ranks fifth in the league.
About Arizona State
Arizona State University is located in Tempe, Ariz., a Phoenix suburb. The Sun Devils are coached by Joseph Anders, who took over the position on an interim basis following a leave of absence by Charli Turner Thorne, who had spent the previous 15 seasons in charge of the program ... ASU is fourth in the Pac-12 and looking to make a repeat trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Sun Devils senior Kimberly Brandon leads the team in scoring with 10.8 points per game. Brandon scored 16 points in the team's first meeting in Seattle. The 6-2 senior is tied for the team lead in rebounds with 6.7 per contest.
No other Sun Devils player averages in double-digit scoring. No problem as ASU possesses one of the more balanced rosters in the league. Deja Mann has a reputation as a closer, evidenced by the 10 points she scored at the end of both halves in the first ASU-UW meeting this year.
Oregon State is fifth in the Pac-12 in scoring with 67.0 points per game, after being one of the most frugal teams on offense in previous years ... OSU is outscoring its opponent by almost 11 points a game.
The Sun Devils are 10-4 at Wells Fargo Arena, but have lost their last two games at home.
Series Record: Washington has lost four straight to Arizona State, currently the third-longest streak for the Huskies against Pac-12 opposition (behind Stanford and UCLA) ... The Huskies are just 12-14 in games at Wells Fargo Arena, although the last two contests in Tempe have been decided by a total of nine points.
Noteworthy: Sun Devils senior Kali Bennett played for one season at Washington before transferring to ASU ... senior guard Alex Earl is the lone Pacific Northwest native (Beaverton, Ore.) on the Sun Devils roster, which has historically featured highly recruited Washingtonians in years past ... ASU freshman guard Promise Amukamara is the sister of Giants cornerback Prince Amukamara, who played for New York in Super Bowl XLVI. Prince also played in two games against the Husky football program while at the University of Nebraska.
Up Next For The Huskies
The Huskies bus down to Tucson for a tilt at Arizona on Feb. 19, which will be broadcast nationally on FSN (ROOT Sports in the Seattle area).
