ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Washington staged a late rally but it was not enough as New Mexico handed the visiting Huskies a 68-63 loss in the second round of the Womens National Invitation Tournament in front of 8,356 fans at The Pit.

The Lobos kept their home record intact, moving to 17-0 in The Pit and 24-6 overall, and will host a third round game against Drake March 17. Washington ends its season with a record of 16-13 overall.

After leading 37-30 at the half, the Lobos extended their lead to as many as 12 points midway through the second half, 45-33. Washington chipped away when Megan Franza hit back-to-back three pointers and Jamie Redd added another to pull within two, 55-57 with 4:10 remaining. Redd scored the next eight points to make it 60-66 and then Franza launched another three, 63-66 at 10 seconds to go, but that was it for the Huskies.

Franza and Amber Hall finished with 18 points each while Redd had 11. Hall also pulled down nine rebounds and surpassed the 1,000-rebound mark to finish her career with 1,003. Miranda Sanchez led the Lobos with 17 points.

"I thought the biggest difference was rebounding, said UW coach June Daugherty. "They were outrebounding us in the first half and kept it up in the second. Our respect goes to New Mexico. They did an outstanding job.

Go Huskies!
