Women's Basketball Falls to UCLA, 96-72
Mar. 1, 1998 Box ScoreLOS ANGELES (AP) - Melanie Pearson scored 19 points and five other teammates scored in double figures as UCLA beat No. 23 Washington 96-72 on Sunday. Coming off the bench, Pearson also had five assists and hit 5-of-7 three pointers. UCLA (18-7, 13-3 Pac-10) went on a 17-3 run to go ahead 69-50 with nine minutes remaining. Erica Gomez scored seven of her 12 in that run. She also had 10 assists. The Bruins put the game away with a 9-0 run to make the score 93-62 with 4:38 remaining. Washington (17-9, 8-9) was led by Amber Hall, who had 16 points. Megan Franz added 15 points and Jamie Redd had 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Maylana Martin added 16 points and seven rebounds for UCLA. Tawana Grimes had 11, and Marie Philman and Janae Hubbard each added 10. UCLA ended the first half with a 12-0 run to take a 46-36 lead into intermission. |
