Women's Hoops Squad Downs Oregon State

SEATTLE - The Washington women's basketball team handed Oregon State its 18th straight Pac-10 Conference road defeat, winning 73-64, in Pac-10 Conference action in front of 2,193 fans at Hec Edmundson Pavilion. Sophomore Megan Franza led the Huskies in scoring for the third time in the last four games, with a game-high 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the field.

Washington snapped a two-game losing streak and improves to 11-10 overall and 7-5 in the Pac-10. OSU drops to 11-10, 3-9.

The game was a tight contest throughout most of the first half with neither team leading by more than five, until Washington closed the half with an 8-1 run to lead 38-29 at halftime. The Huskies increased their lead with two quick baskets in the second half to lead by 14, but Oregon State staged a comeback by scoring 15 of the next 18 points to close within two points, 46-44. The Beavers tied the game at 56-56 with 3:33 to play, but the Huskies Jamie Redd had 7 of her 18 points in the closing minutes to put the game away.

Washingtons Amber Hall had her ninth double-double in 10 games, by scoring 15 and grabbing 10 rebounds. Oregon State was led by the 16 points from Felicia Ragland. The Beavers leading scorer, Sissel Pierce, was held to only 8 points and no rebounds.

Washington plays 23rd-ranked Oregon at 1:00 pm Saturday, in a live television game on Fox Sports Net. Fans may bring an unused Seattle Reign ticket for admission to the game. Oregon State travels to Pullman to play Washington State at 1:00 pm Saturday.
