Kevin McGuff continues to make additions to his staff, as the Huskies coach announced the hire of Megan Osmer as director of basketball operations. A native of nearby Bellevue, Wash., Osmer returns to the Pacific Northwest to help administrate a program she's grown up rooting for. Osmer will responsible for a variety of roles as the team's DOBO, from handling travel logistics to assisting with the team's budget, community service and on-campus recruiting. Osmer joins the Huskies after three seasons as an assistant coach with San Jose State. With the Spartans, Osmer worked with the post players, managed and coordinated academic goals while also assisting with recruiting. As a former assistant, Osmer brings an additional set of skills to the administrative position. That sold Huskies coach Kevin McGuff and his staff when they were looking to make a hire. "We're really excited to bring Megan on board," McGuff said. "She's just an outstanding person, and her level of organization and attention-to-detail is impressive. She brings a diverse set of experiences to the position that will serve us well here at Washington." Osmer played prep basketball at Bellevue High School. She then played one season at Michigan State before transferring to D-II Lynn University. In three seasons at the Boca Raton-based school, Osmer established herself as an effective interior presence, and still ranks in the top five in both blocks and rebounding. During her senior season, she led the Sunshine State Conference in rebounding and was the Fighting Knights Team MVP. Following her 2006 graduation from Lynn with a degree in communications/broadcasting, Osmer added international basketball to her resume. She played with the Manchester Mystics in the United Kingdom for two seasons. While with the club, she also ran coaching sessions for local boys and girls and was an assistant coach for their U16 team. Osmer also worked with the U-20 Great Britain team as a team manager/assistant coach at the European Championships in Ohrid, Macedonia. But Seattle was always home. During breaks at school, Osmer returned to the Pacific Northwest to spend time with family and friends. In the summer of 2004, she worked with the Seattle Storm's marketing department, as well as various basketball camps in the Puget Sound. Additionally, Osmer interned with 950 KJR-AM, the Seattle Sonics and assisted with the Huskies men's and women's basketball camps. Osmer is the fourth hire McGuff has made since taking over the program on April 3. The former Xavier coach has also brought on Kevin Morrison, Mike Neighbors and Adia Barnes as assistants. |
