Kyle Locke
Kyle Locke is entering his first year as an assistant coach at the University of Washington. For the past nine years, Locke served as an assistant coach at Coppin State, a Division I university located in suburban Baltimore. During this span, Locke oversaw the Eagles' defense at Coppin State and was an instrumental figure in recruiting for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference school. During the last three seasons, CSU ranked in the top 15 in the nation in field goal percentage. His recruiting efforts helped the Eagles land two MEAC Players of the Year. Locke also has demonstrated experience recruiting on a national level. "Coach Locke has a great combination of passion, drive and coaching experience that makes him more than a perfect fit for our Husky Basketball Family," coach Tia Jackson said. "His enthusiasm allows him to be an exceptional recruiter, teacher and player developer. We are very thrilled about everything Coach Locke brings to the table." Locke has coaching stints as a men's assistant at the Community College of Baltimore County - Catonsville. He also served as the coach of a premier AAU team in Baltimore that was run by NBA star Carmelo Anthony. As part of his new position at UW, Locke will assist in all facets of the program, from skill development to recruiting. "It's a step up to the upper-echelon of college basketball; the Pac-10 is one of the best conferences in the country." Locke said. "I'm looking forward to the challenge. I've known Coach J for over 10 years, and she's got a great basketball mind. I've picked her brain over the years. She's really given me some really great insight in the women's game. And I think that we can make a great, great team at UW." Prior to joining the coaching ranks, Locke served as the director of basketball operations for FILA USA, where he oversaw marketing, promotions and endorsements for the shoe company. Several members of a blue-chip client list included NBA athletes Jerry Stackhouse, Grant Hill and Chris Webber. From 2008-10, he rejoined FILA USA as a consultant. Locke, a native of Philadelphia, starred at Coppin State in the 1990s, where he established himself as one of the program's best 3-point shooters. During his career with the Eagles, Locke won four MEAC titles and advanced to the NCAA Tournament as a freshman in 1992-93. His senior year, Locke served as team captain and later graduated with a degree in management science. Locke finished 10th on the all-time CSU list for 3-pointers with 122. Locke and his wife Vanessa have three children, Kayel (15), Noah (11) and Paris (6). |
