Huskies Host Regionals As Fall Season Ramps Up
Oct. 20, 2011
ITA NORTHWEST REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS - All Draws and Results SCHEDULE: The tournament consists of a 128-line singles draw, with a number of players receiving first round byes, and a 64-line doubles draw, again with first round byes for top teams. Players that lose their first singles match, either in the rounds of 128 or 64, will move into a consolation bracket. Friday: Singles Round of 128, Singles Round of 64 - 8:00 a.m. PREVIEW: The first big fall tournament for the Husky men's tennis team keeps the Dawgs at home, as Washington plays hosts to the 2011 ITA Northwest Regional Championships this weekend at the Nordstrom Tennis Center, with a few additional matches to be played at the Seattle Tennis Club. Play begins Friday morning and continues until Tuesday. Admission is free for all spectators. The tourney is one of twelve Regional events around the country this month. Regionals are the most all-inclusive event on the ITA's fall calendar, with schools typically entering the majority of their rosters in singles and doubles action. The Northwest Region includes schools in Washington, Oregon, and Northern California, including Pac-12 rivals California, Stanford, and Oregon. Along with the valuable match play against regional rivals, the tournament winners in singles and doubles will earn a spot in next month's ITA National Indoor Championships in Flushing, New York. Seven Huskies will compete this weekend, led by junior Kyle McMorrow, who is the No. 2 seed in the singles draw. Redshirt freshman Nicholas Kamisar, and true freshmen Emmett Egger and Jeff Hawke will compete at home for the first time in their collegiate careers. Egger, who is one of eight No. 9-seeds, played a pair of matches at the ITA All-American Championships earlier this month, but it will be the first match play for Kamisar and Hawke. Also kicking off their seasons for UW are senior Matt Stith, junior Marton Bots, and sophomore Max Manthou. In doubles, McMorrow and Egger are the top overall seeds. Hawke and Manthou will team up, as will Stith and Kamisar. |
