May 26, 2005
SEATTLE - Washington men's tennis player Alex Vlaski (Belgrade, Yugoslavia) was named to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII Men's At-Large Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday.
Vlaski has a 3.51 overall grade point average and is majoring in business administration. The Husky senior is the only men's tennis player to be selected to the team, which also encompasses the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
The Academic All-District team was voted on by CoSIDA members from within the District VIII states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington. With his selection to the district team, Vlaski is now eligible for national Academic All-America honors.
Vlaski was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District second-team in 2004 and is a two-time Pac-10 All-Academic first-team selection in 2003 and 2004. Pac-10 All-Academic honors for this year have not yet been announced.
Vlaski culminated his Washington career yesterday, falling in the first round of the NCAA Singles Championship. A three-time All-American and school record holder in career wins (111), he is arguably the most decorated player to come out of the Husky program.
