May 19, 2001

ATHENS, Ga. - The Washington men's tennis team waited 25 years to participate in its first ever NCAA team championship finals. The Huskies will have to wait one more day.

Washington's round of 16 matchup against third-ranked UCLA that was scheduled for Saturday was postponed due to heavy rain and severe lightning storms. The match has been rescheduled for Sunday at 10 a.m. Pacific Time (1 p.m. Eastern) at the University of Georgia's Henry Feild Stadium.

Six of the eight opening-day matches were completed, three of them finishing at Georgia's indoor tennis complex. Washington's was one of two remaining matches that will be contested Sunday. The rest of the championship schedule will be delayed by one day, beginning with he quarterfinals which were scheduled for Sunday and will now take place on Monday.

Washington advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time since the NCAA began the current team championship format. UW posted a 4-0 first-round win over Hofstra before claiming the regional championship with a 4-1 decision over No. 13 Notre Dame last weekend.

Go Huskies!
