Men's Tennis Takes Second at H.E.B. Classic
March 7, 1999 Corpus Cristi, Texas -- Washington's 18th-ranked men's tennis team lost in the championship match of the H.E.B. Tennis Classic 4-0 to No. 19 Baylor University this afternoon. Baylor claimed the doubles point and won three singles matches for the victory. The Nos. 4-6 singles matches were suspended after the outcome was determined. Washington's record drops to 11-5 and Baylor improves to 11-0. Baylor's two-ranked players, No. 38 Johann Jooste and No. 50 Pawel Gajdzik defeated Eric Drew and No. 3 Robert Kendrick, respectively. Jooste defeated Drew (11-4) 6-2, 6-3 and Gajdzik upset Kendrick (22-5) 6-0, 6-4. Baylor's David Hodge defeated 74th-ranked Andy Posavac 6-2, 6-0. Posavac's record drops to 20-7. Washington returns to action hosting Santa Clara March 25 at 1:30 p.m.
