Kendrick Falls in Semis of All-American Championships
October 19, 1998 AUSTIN, Texas - Washington's sophomore tennis player Robert Kendrick's run through the All-American Championships came to an end today as he lost to Notre Dame's Ryan Sachire 6-7 (8), 6-3, 6-4. His advancement to the semifinals was the farthest ever by a Husky in the tournament. Kendrick took the first-set to a tie-breaker in which he won 8-6. Tied 3-3 in the second-set, Sachire proceeded to claim three more game points to take the set 6-3. Kendrick then dropped the third-set 6-4. It was Kendrick's first three-set match of the tournament. The 21st-ranked Kendrick (4-1) defeated four-ranked opponents before falling to the eight-ranked and the tournament's fifth-seed in Sachire. Sachire lost to fourth-ranked and second-seeded James Blake of Harvard, 6-3, 7-6, in the finals.
