Oct. 5, 2008
FRESNO, Calif. - The first tournament of the season is in the books for the men's tennis team. Sophomore Skyler Tateishi made the consolation final of the B Flight at the Bulldog Classic, coming up just shy in a third-set super-tiebreak. Tateishi reached the final with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Luis Rattenhuber of San Diego State in the morning's semifinal. Against Zac Tsai of UC Irvine in the final, Tateishi took the first set, 6-4, but Tsai took the second, 6-3. The two played a super-tiebreak to decide the match, but Tsai pulled away for a 10-1 win. Tsai reached the final when Husky sophomore Brad Bator was forced to retire due to injury in the other semi. Bator was leading 3-2 in the first set when he withdrew because of injury. Starting Monday, Washington's top-two returners, senior Patrik Fischer and sophomore Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan will make their season debuts in the qualifying draw of the D'Novo/ITA All-American Championships held in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The All-American tourney is the first of three major individual championships during the college tennis season.
