Bator, Tateishi Notch Wins At Bulldog Classic

FRESNO, Calif. - After an early morning rain delay, the Husky men's tennis team wrapped play on the second day of the Bulldog Classic at the Wathen Tennis Center. Sophomore Brad Bator defeated two Pac-10 foes in the B Flight to lead the way. Bator advanced into the semifinals of the consolation draw starting with a third-set super-tiebreak win over Sky Lovill of Cal. Bator secured the first set, 6-4, before dropping the second, 6-1. The Bothell, Wash. native rebounded with a 10-8 tiebreak win. Later in the day, Bator downed Oregon's Sho Higuchi, 6-2, 6-4. In the main singles draw, junior Derek Drabble went up against top-seed Pedro Zerbini of Cal in the quarterfinals. Drabble hung tough for the first set, but Zerbini assumed control in set two, winning 6-4, 6-1. Drabble and sophomore Martin Kildahl, the second seeds in the top doubles draw, lost a quarterfinal match to San Diego's Schive and Wolmarans, 9-8. Sophomore Skyler Tateishi also remains alive in the Flight B consolation draw, as he overcame Alex Gushner of UC Santa Barbara, 6-3, 6-2 to reach the semis. He would meet Bator in the consolation final if both players win their first match tomorrow.
