Huskies Win 39th Straight Over Oregon

SEATTLE - The 15th-ranked Washington men's tennis team defeated the Oregon Ducks, 6-1, today on Denny Courts in Seattle. Washington's overall record improves to 16-8 and 3-4 in the Pac-10. Oregon's record drops to 7-13. Today's victory marks Washington's 39th straight win over the Ducks. Oregon's last victory occured in 1976 and the Huskies lead the all-time series 98-5-1.
Senior Eric Drew and doubles partner Christoph Kull defeated Oregon's David Becker and Thomas Schneiter 8-2 in No. 2 doubles play. The win gives Drew to 68 career doubles wins, only one victory away from UW's all-time doubles wins lead. He is currently tied with Dan Zeratsky (1980-1983) in the top spot. The 51st-ranked Drew (16-6) defeated Schneiter 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 in No. 1 singles play to move in to second-place on UW's all-time singles wins list. He has 79 career singles wins. Chet Crile's (1990-93) 108 singles wins places him in the top spot.
Next week, individual Husky players will compete in the Pac-10 Championships April 22-25 in Ojai, Calif. Single and doubles champions are crowned with no team champion.
