Feb. 27, 1998

SEATTLE -- The 40th-ranked Washington men's tennis team shut out the University of Oregon, 7-0, to up its record to 5-2 on the season. The Huskies swept all six singles matches in straight sets and only dropped one doubles match on the evening.

Junior Eric Drew (10-5) avenged an early season loss to Oregon's Erwan Kergroach, the nation's 92nd-ranked player, by defeating him 6-4, 6-4 in No. 1 singles play. Freshman Robert Kendrick, ranked 70th in the nation, was on his game and breezed to a quick 6-0, 6-2 win in No. 2 singles, upping his record to 16-5. Also recording his tenth victory of the season was Marius Lunde. Lunde defeated Oregon's Joaquin Hamdan 6-1, 6-2 in No. 4 singles play.

The Huskies won the doubles point by virtue of their No. 2 and No. 3 teams wrapping up victories. The No. 2 duo of Nick Quatrochi and Mark Woolley downed Oregon's Hamdan and Carlos Navarro, 8-4, while Andy Posavac and Sasha Rampazzo defeated David Becker and Cedric Van Haver, 8-3, in No. 3 doubles.

The Huskies return to action Sunday, March 1 at 11 a.m. as they face No. 72 Idaho Vandals (3-4).
