SEATTLE - Juniors Jamie Finch and Brent Richards of the UW men's soccer team were two of seven student-athletes named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's (NSCAA) All-West Region Scholar team as announced Wednesday.

"These academic awards are important to our program and demonstrate how multi-talented some of our team members are. Brent and Jamie are hard workers both on the field and in the classroom and these academic honors are proof," said head coach Dean Wurzberger.

Finch, a defender from Bothell, Wash., and Richards, a forward from Camas, Wash., were named First-Team Academic All-District VIII by ESPN earlier this year and Richards was a Third-Team ESPN Academic All-American. Both men also earned First-Team Pac-10 All-Academic honors this year.

Finch is an Academic All-Pac-10 Honorable Mention selection this year and played in all 17 games. Richards was a co-captain and led the team for the third-straight season in goals. He earned First-Team All-Pac-10 Honors this year.

Finch boasts a 3.71 GPA in business marketing - finance while Richards carries a 3.74 GPA.

All seven student-athletes on the West Region are eligible to be named Academic All-Americans. That list will be announced in the coming weeks.
