Five Men's Soccer Players Earn Academic Honors
Nov. 28, 2000 Seattle - Washington men's soccer players Mike Casale, Bryn Ritchie and Chad Olsen were named to the Pac-10 All-Academic first team, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today. Casale, a senior defender from Redmond, Wash., maintains a 3.40 grade point average majoring in society and justice. He was this year's team captain and was recognized as a second team all-conference honoree for his efforts on the field. A junior international studies major from Medford,Ore., Ritchie has a 3.66 grade point average. The defender also received Pac-10 first team honors this season. Olsen, the Huskies' sophomore goalkeeper this season, is majoring in arts and sciences and holds a 3.70 grade point average. He was an all-conference honorable mention honoree. Husky juniors Jake Sagare and Ben Somoza were named to the All-Academic second team. Sagare, a forward, has 3.10 grade point average in the college of arts and sciences while Somoza, a communications major, maintains a 3.12. Washington finished the season with a record of 14-6-0 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Huskies won the first-ever Pac-10 Conference title with a league mark of 7-1-0.
