SEATTLE - The honors continue to roll in for junior forward Brent Richards. The Camas, Wash., native earned Third-Team ESPN Academic All-America honors as announced by CoSIDA today.
This is the first Academic All-American honor for Richards who is a two-time Academic All-District VIII First-Team selection and a two-time Academic All-Pac-10 First-Team honoree. He carries a 3.74 GPA and was one of 11 student-athletes named to the Third-Team.
Earlier this week, Richards earned First-Team All-Pac-10 honors. He led the Huskies in scoring for the third-straight season with eight goals and five assists, including three game-winning goals. He was named to the All-Pac-10 Second-Team last season and earned Honorable Mention honors his freshman year. Richards is the second-straight ESPN Academic All-American for head coach Dean Wurzberger and the fourth ever. Rylan Hawkins was named to the First-Team last season while Chris Eylander was on the Third-Team in 2004 and 2005 and Bryn Ritchie earned Second-Team honors in 2000 and 2001.
"Brent had another great season for us on the field and his high level performance in his academics work shows what a special student-athlete he is," said Wurzberger.
