Sackeyfio Named GoHuskies.com SAOTW
Oct. 15, 2012 SEATTLE - Men's soccer senior Nate Sackeyfio (Seattle,Wash.) has been named the GoHuskies.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 8th-14th, 2012. Sackeyfio spent three years playing at the University of Denver before transferring to UW for his senior season. On Monday in a match aired live on the Pac-12 Network, Sackeyfio scored his first career goal as a Husky against No. 8 ranked UCLA, helping them snap the Bruin's 16-game Pac-12 winning streak with a 2-1 win in Los Angeles. The winning streak dated back just shy of two years, with their last conference loss coming at the hands of California on October 24th, 2010. Sackeyfio's goal came in the 13th minute and was only the second goal UCLA has allowed in the first 45 minutes of a game this season. UW returned home this past weekend for two more conference games against California and Stanford. After a hard-fought 1-0 win in double overtime on Friday, the Huskies faced Stanford on a rainy Sunday afternoon in Seattle. Less than a week after scoring his first Husky career goal, Sackeyfio knocked in what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 80th minute of a 2-0 win over Stanford. Sackeyfio headed a Ben Fisk free-kick into the right corner of the net late in a physical game with few shot attempts. The Huskies are now 9-3-2 on the season and 4-0-1 in the Pac-12, which is good for first place heading into the second half of the conference slate. The Huskies head down to the bay area this weekend to try and repeat the results of this past weekend. UW takes on California at 1:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon and faces Stanford at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. Both games will air live on the Pac-12 Networks. Other nominees include: Austin Seferian-Jenkins (football), Katie Flood (women's cross country), Krista Vansant (volleyball), Kari Davidson (women's soccer). 2012-13 GoHuskies.com Student-Athlete of the Week: Oct. 15 - Nate Sackeyfio (men’s soccer) |
