Oct. 11, 2012
SEATTLE - Coming off of the huge upset at No. 8 UCLA on Monday, the UW men's soccer team looks to continue its four-game unbeaten streak at home Friday against Cal and Sunday vs. Stanford.
The 7-3-2 Huskies are 2-0-1 in Pac-12 play, currently atop the conference standings and will wrap up the first half of league competition against these two northern California schools.
Cal is fourth in the Pac-12 standings with a 1-2-0 record and is 6-4-1 overall. In their last two Pac-12 matches they lost to UCLA 3-1 and Stanford 2-0. The Golden Bears picked up a conference win on opening weekend, 1-0 vs. San Diego State. Stefano Bonomo has a team-high five goals. Seth Casiple is the assist leader with six. Kevin Peach has played the majority of the minutes in goal, allowing 14 goals and making 44 saves.
Stanford is 5-5 overall and third in the Pac-12 with a 2-1 mark. The Cardinal picked up 2-0 wins the last two weeks over SDSU and Cal. Their biggest win of the season was at then-ranked No. 11 UC Irvine, 2-0 on Sept. 7. Adam Jahn is the point's leader with 12, five goals and two assists. Drew Hutchins has played every minute in goal, allowing 12 goals and making 30 saves.
The Huskies swept the northern California schools last year, defeating Cal by one goal in each meeting, 2-1 in OT at Cal and 1-0 in Seattle. At Stanford in 2011 the UW won 2-0 and then came out on top of a 2-1 win at Stanford later in the season. This year's Husky seniors have never lost to Stanford. The last win for the Cardinal of the Huskies was Nov. 7, 2008.
