Pac-12 Play Opens With Tough Beaver Team Sunday
Sept. 25, 2012
SEATTLE – It’s that time of year. Pac-12 season is here. Washington hosts the always tough Oregon State Beavers in the Pac-12 opener for both teams on Sunday at 4 p.m. live on the Pac-12 Networks. The Huskies are 5-3-1 on the year after finishing non-conference play last week going 1-1 defeating Seattle U and falling to nationally ranked Brown. Washington holds a 32-11-3 all-time advantage in the series vs. the Beavers including a 3-0 win in the second meeting between the two last season in Seattle. Oregon State won the meeting in Corvallis in 2011. On Aug. 18 the Pac-12 coaches picked UCLA to win the conference followed by Cal and Washington. Oregon State was picked to finish sixth. The Beavers are 5-2-1 on the year defeating UC Irvine and UW-Green Bay last week. They tied then-ranked No. 4 UC Santa Barbara, 2-2, earlier in the season. Emery Welshman has a team high six goals while Roberto Farfan leads the Beavers in assists with six. In goal, Matt Bersano is 5-2-1 with 27 saves and just seven goals allowed on the year. The coaches hope that Husky freshman defender Michael Gallagher can return to the lineup Sunday. He missed the last two games with a concussion.
