Forrest Tabbed Candidate For Lowe's Senior CLASS Award
Sept. 24, 2007
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Washington senior forward Kevin Forrest has been tabbed one of 20 candidates for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award for men's soccer, an honor presented annually in eight NCAA Division I sports to a senior student-athlete who excels both on and off the field.
Candidates are selected based on personal qualities that define a complete student-athlete. While the on-the-field performance during their collegiate soccer careers is a factor in determining candidates and the eventual winner, their personal character and off-the-field achievements in the classroom and community are major areas of focus.
Forrest, a native of Edmonds, Wash., is a co-captain for the Huskies in 2007 and considered one of the top collegiate players in the nation. He is a preseason candidate for the MAC Hermann Trophy and a preseason All-American after earning NSCAA first-team All-Region and Pac-10 Player of the Year honors last year. Forrest, also a 2006 NSCAA Scholar All-American and two-time first-team Pac-10 All-Academic honoree, leads the Huskies in 2007 with six goals and three assists.
This fall he has been tabbed to Soccer America's National Team of the Week twice and was selected the National Player of the Week by CollegeSoccerNews.com (Sept. 17). Forrest garnered the season's first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor as well (Sept. 4). His 34 career goals rank eighth on UW's all-time list and his 75 career points are two away from tying his father Ward for 10th on UW's all-time list.
From the list of 20 candidates for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, a national media committee will select 10 finalists in October. Those 10 names will then be placed on the official ballot for a nationwide vote beginning Oct. 16 and concluding Nov. 21. Fan balloting will be coupled with votes from coaches, media and sponsors to determine the recipient of the award. Winners will be announced during the NCAA Soccer Championships to be held Dec. 14-16 in Cary, N.C.
