SEATTLE - The Washington men's soccer team (1-1-0) remains on the road this week as the Huskies participate in the Cal State Fullerton Tournament at Titan Stadium in Fullerton, Calif.

Washington will open up the tournament by taking on Cal State Northridge at 4:30 p.m. on Friday and conclude the tournament by taking on the host Titans at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Scouting Cal State Northridge
The Matadors of Cal State Northridge enter the tournament with a 0-2-0 record after getting shutout by San Diego and Loyola Marymount, 2-0, in each game last weekend. Rafael Garcia leads the team with seven shots. Michael Abalos has seen the most time in goal, allowing three goals while making six saves. Terry Davila is the head coach in his 12th season. Last year he was named the Big West Conference Coach of the Year. Washington leads the all-time series vs. CSUN 1-0-2, winning the last meeting 2-1 back in 1993. The previous two meetings, in 1990 and 1991, both resulted in 3-3 ties in overtime.

Scouting Cal State Fullerton
The host Cal State Fullerton Titans enter their tournament with a 0-0-2 record. Their two ties were against Saint Mary's, 0-0, and San Francisco, 1-1. The lone goal on the season for the Titans belongs to Nick Posthuma. Celso Alvarez was credited with the assist. Trevor Whiddon is the goalkeeper, allowing one goal while making eight saves. Fullerton is coached by Bob Ammann in his fifth season as head coach. Washington and Cal State Fullerton have a heated rivalry that the Huskies control 9-3-0. Washington won the last meeting 1-0 in 2008 and has won the last five. The first-ever meeting was a 2-1 Fullerton win back in 1972.

Huskies Split on Opening Weekend
The Huskies are off to their best start since 2008 with a 1-1-0 record. Washington played two tough teams in the Portland/Nike Invitational on opening weekend, falling 2-1 to No. 30 Evansville in the 88th minute and picking up their first win of the year, 1-0, over Northern Illinois.

Freshmen Connect for First Goal of the Season
Freshmen Michael Harris (assist) and John Crenshaw (goal) connected for the first Husky goal of the season in the 2-1 loss to Evansville in the season opener. Crenshaw didn't play in the pre-season scrimmages but earned the start, scoring in the 20th minute to tie the game.

Richards' First Goal a Wild One
Junior captain Brent Richards has led the team in scoring each of the past two seasons and picked up his first goal of 2010 vs. Northern Illinois. Richards threw the ball in parallel to the goal line and the ball deflected off of the NIU goalkeeper and in for the score. Because the ball was touched by the keeper off of the throw, Richards got credit for the goal. The wild play that gave Richards the goal ended up being the game-winner in the 73rd minute.

Richey Earns First Shutout
Freshman Spencer Richey earned the start in goal in his first collegiate game, collecting three saves vs. Evansville. Against NIU, he earned his first career win and shutout, making two saves.

Alumni Game Set For Sept. 26
The Annual Alumni Game will be played before the final game of the Husky Invite on Sunday, Sept. 26 from 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. If you are interested in playing, contact assistant coach Brandon Prideaux.

Scrimmages Give Newcomers Experience
UW hosted Simon Fraser and Seattle Pacific in preseason scrimmages the end of August. These two games gave Coach Wurzberger the opportunity to play around with different lineups and see where the freshmen will fit in. In both games, numerous newcomers saw playing time with senior transfer Daniel Gray netting a goal vs. Simon Fraser. Against SPU, Dylan Tucker-Gangnes netted a goal for the Dawgs in the second half. The scrimmages didn't affect the team's or individuals records or statistics.

Huskies Picked Sixth in Pac-10 Poll
The Pac-10 preseason coaches poll picked UCLA to repeat and Stanford second. Cal was picked third, followed by Oregon State, San Diego State and Washington. UW received nine total points.

10th Anniversary of Pac-10 Championship
UW is celebrating its 10th anniversary of its 2000 Pac-10 Championship. The 2000 season was a special one for Coach Wurzberger who led the Huskies to their first Pac-10 title in his ninth season. Ranked No. 13 in the country heading into the NCAA Tournament, the Huskies earned the right to host the First Round and defeated Alabama-Birmingham 1-0 in four overtime periods. UW also hosted the NCAA Second Round, falling 2-1 to Indiana. They finished 14-6-0 that season and 7-1 in the Pac-10. Bryn Ritchie was named a second-team all-american and nine Huskies earned All-Pac-10 honors that year.

Armstrong Joins Rapids
Davy Armstrong was supposed to be a freshman on this year's team but he had another offer he couldn't refuse. The Colorado Rapids of the MLS signed Armstrong to a pro contract two days before fall camp began.
