Huskies defeat Western Washington.
Aug, 24, 1998 BELLINGHAM, Wash.--Both the returnees and the newcomers gave head coach Dean Wurzberger reason to smile on Friday evening when the Washington men's soccer team downed Western Washington, 3-0, in the opening exhibition of the 1998 season.
Senior Matt Annis and junior Morgan McCoy had a hand in two goals, and three newcomers also scored. Annis netted the first ball of the match in the 24th minute off an assist from McCoy. Junior transfer Wes Hart, who competed with the Huskies during the spring season, scored five minutes later, with Annis and McCoy joining for that assist. Then in the 66th minute, two freshmen teamed for a goal when Jake Sagare dished off to Zach Kingsley.
Senior goalkeeper Peter Van de Ven went the distance for the shutout. |
