Huskies Open 2012 With In-State Rival
Aug. 22, 2012
SEATTLE - Second-year head coach Jamie Clark will lead his 2012 men's soccer team on the season-opening weekend at Husky Soccer Field at 5 p.m. Friday vs. Gonzaga and Sunday at 5 p.m. vs. Cal Poly. Clark and the Huskies are coming off of a 12-4-2 season in which they finished second in the Pac-12 and just missed out on the NCAA Tournament. The Huskies return a great mixture of players on each line and in goal while bringing in 10 newcomers and 14 total players who have yet to play in a Husky uniform. Along with Clark, assistant coach Jeff Rowland returns for his second year and Husky alum Craig Waibel joins the staff. Prior to returning to UW, Waibel was an assistant at Michigan after playing 10 years in the MLS. He graduated from UW in 1999 as a two-time team captain and all-conference and all-region selection. This will mark the first time UW has started a season at home since 2006. The Huskies won last year's season-opener at Gonzaga, 3-0. UW hosted Simon Fraser in an exhibition last Thursday in which senior Dylan Tucker-Gangnes and junior transfer Bradley McIntosh scored. The Gonzaga game will air on the Pac-12 Networks, becoming the first UW sporting event to air live on the new station. Fans can watch it live on Pac-12 Washington and various other Pac-12 Networks.
