SEATTLE - With the men's soccer season right around the corner, the Huskies face Simon Fraser in an exhibition on Thursday at 7 p.m., www.GoHuskies.com will preview the newcomers to the team. There are 11 newcomers to the 2012 team including transfers and freshmen. A total of 16 players have never worn a Husky uniform, with five having to sit out the 2011 season due to transfer rules or injuries. In this third segment, fans will learn more about senior transfers Patrick Pacheco and Nate Sackeyfio and incoming freshman Justin Schmidt. Midfielder Pacheco came to Washington after three years at the University of New Mexico. During his time at New Mexico, Pacheco appeared in 52 games, logging over 1800 minutes with the Lobos. He scored two goals, one each during his freshman and sophomore seasons. As a sophomore, he started 10 of the 20 games he appeared in. The Taos, N.M., native graduated from Taos High School as the all-time leading goal scorer with 67 and record holder for most goals (32) and assists (16) in a season. He was named the 2008 District Player of the Year and made the All-State Second Team in 2007 and 2008. Pacheco also led his club team, Classic Red Star, to six state championships and he was named captain of the 91 ODP Region IV Team. Also making his first appearance in the purple in gold is forward Sackeyfio. After three seasons at the University of Denver, the Seattle native and Ingraham High School alum has come back home. Sackeyfio appeared in 50 games as a Pioneer, scoring one goal in each of his three years there. He has performed well in the classroom as well; Sackeyfio was named a 2011 MPSF All-Academic Selection and received the distinguished scholastic award at Ingraham High School, in addition to the athletic accolades he received during his high school and club career.
