Meet The Men's Soccer Team: Part Two

SEATTLE - With the men's soccer season right around the corner, the Huskies face Simon Fraser in an exhibition on Thursday at 7 p.m., www.GoHuskies.com will preview the newcomers to the team. There are 11 newcomers to the 2012 team including transfers and freshmen. A total of 16 players have never worn a Husky uniform, with five having to sit out the 2011 season due to transfer rules or injuries. In this second segment, fans will learn more about sophomore Darwin Jones and freshmen Ian Lange, Tyler Miller and James Moberg. Jones is a local product out of Des Moines, Wash. He played one season at Highline CC and will have three years of eligibility at UW. At HCC he had 15 goals and 10 assists while being named the team MVP. HCC made the semifinals of the NWAACC playoffs and Jones was selected as an all-star. He attended Mt. Rainier High School and played club soccer with Highline Premier FC, Washington Premier and the Sounders FC Academy. From Burien, Wash., and out of Kennedy High School, Lange joins the Huskies and will play on the back line. He was a two-time all-conference selection and played club with Norpoint FC, Mt. Rainier FC and the Washington Premier FC Black. He won two state cups, was an ODP all-star and played most recently with the Sounders FC. Miller, along with fellow freshman Justin Schmidt, played together at Volcano Vista High School in Albuquerque, N.M. As a defender, he was a three-time all-state selection and the first in his school's history to be named to the first-team. In 2011 he was the District Player of the Year and nominated for the Mexico Gatorade Player of the Year. A midfielder from Windsor, Calif., Moberg brings with him a lot of accolades from his high school career at Maria Carrillo and his club team, Santa Rosa Atletico. At MCHS he was a two-time captain and team MVP, a three-time first-team all-league selection and a four-time scholar-athlete. Moberg was also a two-time ODP all-star.
