SEATTLE - The UW men's and women's soccer teams joined together to host a clinic for the Seattle Youth Soccer Association (SYSA) Monday night. The men's and women's soccer teams are known for their community service in the Seattle area and this free clinic welcomed 230 kids from the SYSA. It was another great for the student-athletes to give back to the community. "It's fantastic for everyone involved when we put on clinics," said men's head coach Jamie Clark. "We love spending time with young soccer players from the local community and it's great to see the interaction between the kids and our teams. The Husky soccer players are great role models for young aspiring kids, so it's critical that these youngsters get exposure to our teams. These clinics foster this interaction and show the kids where dedication and hard work can get you." These two teams will hold an "SYSA Night" in the fall where all kids associated with SYSA can get free admission to a men's and women's doubleheader on October 12. "The men's and women's soccer staffs and teams have always tried to be a soccer beacon in the community," said head women's coach Lesle Gallimore. "The clinic with the Seattle Youth Soccer Association was another great example of how bringing the local youth players onto campus and having them interact with our programs is nothing but a positive step in building relationships through soccer, creating a great fan base for our teams, promoting soccer as a whole and giving our players the opportunity to give back to a community that has never been anything but supportive to us. It was a great night all around and hats off to the SYSA staff and our assistants coaches and players for pulling it all together." |
