Allen Selected by Los Angeles in 2008 MLS SuperDraft

Jan. 18, 2008

BALTIMORE, Md. - Washington senior forward Ely Allen was selected in the second round of the 2008 Major League Soccer Super Draft by the Los Angeles Galaxy on Friday.

Allen, a native of Kent, Wash., was the 21st overall pick in the draft and will join former Husky teammate Ty Harden on the Galaxy. Harden was a second-round pick by Los Angeles in the 2007 draft.

A four-time All-Pac-10 selection for the Huskies, Allen was the 2007 Co-Pac-10 Player of the Year and a second-team All-American by College Soccer News this past fall. He led the Huskies with 12 goals and 26 points in 2007; scoring nine of those goals after fellow forward Kevin Forrest was lost for the season due to an injury.

Allen is also just one of two players to ever earn the Pac-10 Player of the Year honor after garnering Pac-10 Freshman of the Year acclaim which he did so in 2004. He is also a two-time NSCAA All-Region honoree and finished his career with 26 goals, 12 assists and 64 points.

Allen is Washington's third-highest MLS draft-pick, trailing only West Hart and Billy Sleeth who were first round selections. This year marks the fourth straight year a Husky has been selected in the draft. In addition to Harden, recent Washington draft picks have been midfielder Mike Chabala (2006) and midfielder C.J. Klaus (2005).

Allen joins five other former Huskies who currently play in the MLS including Harden, Chabala (Houston Dynamo), Craig Waibel (Houston Dynamo), Joe Franchino (New England Revolution) and Brandon Prideaux (Colorado Rapids).

Kansas City selected UCLA defender Chance Myers with the first overall selection. For a complete list of picks, please visit the Major League Soccer official website.
