BERKELEY, Calif. - The Washington men's soccer team scored two goals in the first 21 minutes of play to down the Cal Bears, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon. The Huskies improve their MPSF record to 3-1 and are 11-2 overall.

Senior Matt Annis converted a penalty kick at 6:25 after Cal goalkeeper Doug Brooks pulled down sophomore Kai Carroll in the penalty box. Then at 20:47, senior Viet Nguyen scored on a feed from freshman Bryn Ritchie, who received a throw-in from junior Wes Hart.

The Bears had an opportunity to cut the lead to one in the 32nd minute. John Macdonald was awarded a penalty kick after being tripped in the penalty box, but Husky keeper Peter Van de Ven made a diving save to his left to maintain the shutout, his fifth of the season.

UW led in shots (16-7) and corner kicks (2-1). Van de Ven made three saves to Brooks' nine.
