Men's Golf Wraps Up Fall Season At CordeValle

SAN MARTIN, Calif. -- The Huskies Men's Golf team hopes to end their fall season on a strong note this week when the head to CordeValle Country Club to take on another stellar field. The Huskies have finished first at the Kikkor Golf Husky Invitational and have a pair of second-place finishes in the Prestige at PGA WEST and U.S. Intercollegiate so far this fall. Washington's play has helped them jump to No. 3 in the Golfstat.com rankings. This week, the Huskies are among 11 teams competing in the three-day, 54-hole 2011 Gifford Collegiate Championship from Monday, Oct. 31 through Wednesday, Nov. 2. Joining Washington in the foothills of Northern California's Santa Cruz Mountains are host UCLA (rated 10th by Golfstat), Arizona (41st), Coastal Carolina, Long Beach State, Northwestern, Oregon (2nd), Stanford (5th), USC (30th), Virginia (36th) and Washington State. This week's fall finale is the first tournament Washington has competed in that features six players from each team with the top five scores counting towards the team totals. Once again, the Huskies top five will consist of Chris Williams, Cheng-Tsung Pan, Charlie Hughes, Cory McElyea and Trevor Simsby. Joining them in the fray this week for the first time will be sophomore Gerrit Chambers. Williams (6th) and Pan (10th) give the Huskies two players currently ranked in the Royal & Ancient's World Amateur Rankings. Both are also rated among Golfstat.com's top-10 (Pan 7th, Williams 10th). Pan has a win under his belt, plus a third place finish, while Williams has a win and 10th place finish to his credit.
