Impressive Field Awaits UW In Georgia

U.S. Collegiate Championship website ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- The Husky Men's Golf team will look to continue their terrific start to the season, beginning this Sunday at the United States Collegiate Championship in Alpharetta, Ga. After starting the season off with a win in the Kikkor Golf Husky Invitational and a second place finish at the Prestige tournament at PGA West, the No. 10 ranked Huskies face tough competition at the 54-hole tournament held at the Golf Club of Georgia that runs through Tuesday. The impressive field consists of 14 of the nation's top teams, including the host and defending tournament champions, No. 6 Georgia Tech. The Huskies will also be going up against Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index rated No. 4 Auburn, No. 8 Florida State, No. 11 Virginia, No. 14 Kent State, No. 16 Clemson, No. 25 Duke, No. 27 UCLA and No. 29 Iowa, No. 36 Texas A&M, No. 41 Wake Forest, No. 54 Southern California and East Tennessee State. The Huskies' Head Coach Matt Thurmond will feature the same lineup as the previous two competitions: Chris Williams, Cheng-Tsung Pan, Charlie Hughes, Trevor Simsby and Cory McElyea. In leading the Husky charge to their second-place finish at PGA West two weeks ago, freshman Pan notched his first career individual collegiate victory. He jumped in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR) from 25th to 10th this week. Pan and teammate Chris Williams, who is ranked 6th in the WAGR, will look to ride the wave of outstanding play and help lead the Huskies to victory at the Golf Club of Georgia.
