UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. - Nick Taylor will advance to match play at the U.S. Amateur Championship after finishing in a tie for 13th place after the second round of medal play at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash.

Taylor, who wrapped up his UW career by winning the Ben Hogan Award last season, carded a 4-over 75 on the Chambers Bay Course. On Monday, he hit a 3-under 69 on The Home Course in DuPont, Wash.

Taylor opened his round Tuesday with three bogeys in his first five holes, before coming back with birdies on the sixth and eighth holes. On the back nine, he birdied 12 before bogeys on 14, 15 and 16. Taylor closed his round with a birdie 4 on the 604-yard 18th hole.

First-round matches begin Wednesday at Chambers Bay. Both the second and third rounds will be contest Thursday. The final eight play on Friday and the semifinals are Saturday before the 36-hole final on Sunday.

Another former Husky, Darren Wallace, was not among the 64 golfers (of 312 who entered) to advance to match play. Wallace scored a 73 on The Home Course Tuesday after having posted a 77 on Monday at Chambers.

Jeff Wilson of Fairfield, Calif., who shot a stunning 10-under 62 on Monday, posted a 3-over 74 on Tuesday, but still took medalist honors, one shot ahead of Patrick Cantlay of Los Alamitos, Calif., and Patrick Rodgers of Avon, Ind.
