Aug. 23, 2010
Former Husky All-American Nick Taylor is tied for second place after one day at the U.S. Amateur Championship, being held in University Place and DuPont, Wash. Taylor shot a 3-under 69 on The Home Course in DuPont and will play at Chambers Bay in University Place tomorrow. Monday's play ended due to darkeness with a handful of players still on the course. Another former Husky, Darren Wallace, shot a seven-over par 78 in his round at Chambers Monday. He sits in a tie for 188th in the 312-man field. He'll play The Home Course on Tuesday. After the second round of stroke play, the top 64 players will advance to a match-play tournament with runs through Sunday. Taylor, who started his round on the 10th hole, birdied the 10th, 18th, 1st and 9th holes. His lone bogey of the day came on the par-3 fourth hole. He's tied with eight other golfers at 3-under. Remarkably, the tournament leader, Jeff Wilson of Fairfield, Calif., leads the field by seven strokes at 10-under. Wilson played The Home Course on Monday. Wallace gets his second round underway Tuesday on the 10th hole of The Home Course at 8:45 a.m. while Taylor will play the first at Chambers Bay at 1:00 p.m. You can find out more by visiting the tournament's official website. |
