UW Golfers Competing Hard This Week
Aug. 9, 2012
Thursday was a busy day for a handful of Husky golfers - both past and present - competing this week at several tournaments around North America. Former Husky Corey Prugh shot 6-over 78 in the first round of the PGA Championship at Kiawah Island in South Carolina. His round leaves him tied for 137th entering Friday's second round. Prugh's younger brother, Alex, fared better Thursday on the Web.com Tour stop. He shot 5-under 67 in the first round of the Price Cutter Charity Championship at Highland Springs CC in Springfield, Mo. and is tied for 24th, four shots off the lead. On the amateur side, current Huskies Trevor Simsby and Charlie Hughes wrapped up the third round of the Canadian Men's Amateur Championship at Camelot Golf and Country Club in Cumberland, Ont. Simsby is tied for 15th at -3 overall (70-69-74-213), while Hughes is tied for 41st at +2 (74-72-72-218). Defending tournament champion Mackenzie Hughes is 12-under to lead the tournament by one stroke. |
