HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. -- Chris Williams and Cheng-Tsung Pan each shot even-par 72 in the first round of the Western Amateur Championship at Exmoor Country Club in Highland Park, Ill. on Tuesday, leaving the Husky duo tied for 28th out of 156 golfers.

Pan, who has won the stroke-play portion of this event the past two years, had four birdies and four bogeys during the opening round, while Williams, the current No. 1 ranked amateur player in the world, also had four birdies that were negated by two bogeys and a double-bogey.

After Wednesday's round, the low 44 scores plus ties advance to match play action. The tournament runs through Saturday, Aug. 4.

A total of 27 golfers broke par on Tuesday, led by Curtis Thompson who fired a 5-under 67 at the 7,116-yard course.
