Thurmond Reports From Canada
July 24, 2010
PGATOUR.com: Tournament Central | Leaderboard | Tee Times Husky coach Matt Thurmond is caddying for Nick Taylor this weekend at the PGA Tour's RBC Canadian Open at St. George's Golf and Country Club. He will check in during the tournament and provide inside information from Toronto this weekend. Here is his report after Friday's action. There was a rain delay today so Nick's 1:55 starting time became a 3:25 starting time. It was getting dark when he finished. After lots of drama, Nick's day ended in 71, the same as yesterday. He missed the cut by three shots. He started well again with a couple of quick birdies, but a double-bogey on his fourth hole really derailed him for a number of holes. The double came from the middle of the fairway in the most unexpected situation. He had a couple more bogeys after that and despite a solid finish he wasn't able to make up enough shots to make the cut. Brock Mackenzie had another solid day today, shooting 68 and finishing in 5th place entering the weekend. I haven't spoken with Alex since his round ended, but he bogeyed his last hole to miss by one. "The Cut" looms large in these events. If you make the cut you make a check and you have something to do this weekend. If you make the cut you have a good chance to move up the leaderboard and make some significant money. Everyone seems obsessed with the cut as it gets closer in the Friday afternoon rounds. The scoreboards list in big, bold type what the projected cut will be. The players see it over and over and know exactly what they have to do. It is sort of another tournament in and of itself that you don't really see much on television. Unfortunately, for Nick and Alex, it didn't work out in their favor this week. Go Brock! |
