Pan, Williams Advance To Match Play At U.S. Publinx

U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship | PNGA Amateur Championship MIDWAY, Utah - Washington All-Americans Chris Williams shot 2-under 69 and Cheng-Tsung Pan even-par 71 in the second round of the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship on Tuesday morning. Both entered the clubhouse safely among the 64 golfers that will move on to match play beginning Wednesday at Soldier Hollow Golf Course in Midway, Utah. Pan tied for fifth among after 36 holes at 4-under 138 (67-71), while Williams tied for 10th at 2-under 140 (71-69). The round of 64 will be played on Wednesday. The rounds of 32 and 16 will be held Thursday, with the quarterfinals and semifinals held on Friday. The finals will be 36 holes of match play held on Saturday. Chris Williams drew the 15th seed and will play Alex Williams on Wednesday. Alex Williams served as UW's men's assistant coach this past season. Pan is the sixth seed and will play the 59th seed Shane Smith in the round of 64. Michael Combs (1990) is the only Husky to win the championship. Nick Taylor was runner up in 2009 after earning stroke play medalist honors. In action from Wine Valley Golf Course in Walla Walla for the Pacific Northwest Men's Amateur Championship, incoming UW freshman Tyler Salsbury ended stroke play even par after 36 holes. He shot 1-under 71 on Wednesday and tied for 18th. He is the 28-seed for match play and will face Rak Cho on Wednesday. Fellow incoming freshman Jonathan Sanders finished 2-over during stroke play and just missed the match play cut line. He tied for 68th. |
