LIVE COVERAGE: Men's Golf vs. Texas
June 1, 2012
LIVE COVERAGE: PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Well, the Huskies have made it! After a lot of hard work and preparation, trials and tribulation, Washington has truly arrived on the scene. But, there is much work left to do. The Huskies, who earned the No. 6 seed by virtue of finishing sixth in stroke play, draw No. 3 Texas. Throw out those seeding though, as Texas entered the tournament as the top-ranked team. It is easy to see why, as they have four players ranked in Golfweek's top 57 and their fifth is 127th. The Longhorns have finished first in seven events and second in another three this season. There are chinks in their amour though, as Washington proved at the NCAA Norman Region by defeating Texas in stroke play. The Huskies and Longhorns selected their lineups in a draft-like process last night in the team hotel and here is how it ended up, with tee times included: 12:15 - Charlie Hughes (UW) vs. Toni Hakula (Texas) For Texas, here are the Golfweek rankings for their lineup: Spieth (1st), Frittelli (3), Vegas (20), Hakula (57) and Gribble (127). Conversely, the Huskies ranked are Williams (4), Pan (26) and Simsby (128). Deduction tells you that the Huskies are favored in only one of the matches, but thankfully being ranked higher doesn't get you a two-hole advantage on the scorecard! It's a clean slate for everyone. Let's tee it up and play some golf. I strongly encourage fans wanting the most instantaneous updates to follow UW_MGolf on Twitter (links above). Several UW staff members are on the course and will be tweeting as the action unfolds. Go Huskies!
