Men's Golfers End Regular Season in 11th
May 8, 1999 STANFORD, Calif - Playing without its four top players, Washington's men's golf team finshed 11th at the U.S. Intercollegiate at Stanford Golf Course. The Huskies carded 303 in the final round to finish with 897 for the 54-hole tournament at the 6,756-yard Stanford Golf Course. Will McCurdy led Washington, matching his season-best with an even-par 71 in Saturday's final round. The freshman finished tied for 26th with a 219 for the tournament. He will likely assume the fifth spot in Washington's line-up as it prepares for post-season tournaments. Robb Bergeson followed his second-round 69 with a 77 to finish with a 9-over 222, tied for 34th place. Washington's top four players, Troy Kelly, Rob Rashell, Scott Kral and Gordy Scutt, did not participate in the tournament as fifth-year coach O.D. Vincent looks for a final player to fill out UW's post-season line-up. Brigham Young won the tournament with an 852, 10 strokes better than second place Oregon. Stanford placed third on its home course with an 863. For the second straight week, Stanford All-American Joel Kribel finshed second, this time in a one hole playoff to Pepperdine's Michael Beard, who won medalist honors after each player carded 206. Washington plays in the West Regional starting May 19 at Tucson National Golf Club.
