Men's Golfers 11th at Stanford Tourney

STANFORD - Playing with out its top four players, Washington's men's golf team carded two scores under 300 to tie for 11th after two rounds of the Stanford's US Intercollegiate. Washington posted 296 in the first round Friday at Stanford Golf Course and a 298 in the second to tie with Sacramento State with a 36-hole tally of 594. Brigham Young has the lead with one round remaining in the 54-hole event with a 567, two strokes better than second place Stanford's 569.

Washington was led by the play of Robb Bergeson who is tied for 26th with a 145. Bergeson, who won the Arizona Intercollegiate earlier this spring, followed a first round 76 with a 2-under-par 69 . Freshman Will McCurdy posted UW's next-lowest score with 148. Washington's top four players; Troy Kelly, Rob Rashell, Scott Kral and Gordy Scutt are not playing in the tournament as head coach O.D. Vincent is using the tournament to determine who will fill the fifth and final spot in the Washington line-up during the post season.

Pepperdine's Michael Beard leads the field with an 9-under 133, two strokes better than Pac-10 Player of the Year Joel Kribel.

Action continues with the final round tomorrow at 8 a.m. at Stanford Golf Course.
