Men's Golfers Capture Title at Western Intercollegiate
April 6, 1999 SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Washington men's golf team carded a tournament-low 285 in the second round of the Western Intercollegiate to capture its third tournament title of the season. The Huskies registered a 36-hole total of 584 to better second place Pepperdine by 15 strokes. Washington placed three players in the top-10, led by All-America candidate Rob Rashell, who carded an even-par 70 in Tuesday's final round to finish in second place with a 144. Scott Kral finished just one stroke back of Rashell, tied for third, after a 72 in the final round. UW freshman standout Troy Kelly tied for ninth with a 147. Gordy Scutt completed Washington's scoring with a 148, tied for 11th. Stanford All-American Joel Kribel claimed medalist honors after a 1-under par performance over the 36 holes to finish with a 139. The tournament was originally scheduled for 54-holes but was reduced to 36 after heavy rain caused cancellation of yesterday's second round. Washington's next action will be April 17-18 at the ASU Invitational in Tempe, Ariz. It is UW's final tune-up before it hosts the Pacific-10 Championships at Broadmoor Country Club April 26-28.
