Men's Golf Finishes in Third Place Tie at Pasatiempo

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- The University of Washington men's golf team fired an 876 to finish in a three way tie for third place at the Western Intercollegiate. Nevada and Brigham Young carded identical scores on the par 71 Pasatiempo Golf Course in Santa Curz. UC Santa Barbara won the tournament with 868, bettering second place San Jose State by six strokes.
Washington junior Rob Rashell led the Huskies, finishing with a 75 in the final round to drop from seventh to ninth place. Rashell has now placed in the top-10 in his past six tournaments to give him 11 top-10 finishes in hs career at Washington. He needs two more top-10 finishes tie his head coach O.D. Vincent, who set the record in 1991. Rashell's six top-10 finishes this season is the most since Mike Swingle and Vincent recorded seven and eight top-10s in 1991. Senior Darren Slackman carded Washington's best final round score, shooting 73 to finish in a tie for 13th. Naoya Takemoto of UC Santa Barbara, won the tournament with a 2-under-par 211.
