Washington Finishes Sixth at UTEP Intercollegiate
Feb. 28, 1998 EL PASO, Texas -- The Washington men's golf team posted a 305 in the final round of the UTEP Intercollegiate, finishing in sixth place with a 54-hole total of 941. The Huskies started the day in third place and fired their best score of the tournament but still dropped three spots. Tulsa fired an even par round of 288 to finish first, 10 strokes ahead of second place UTEP. It was Washington's first tournament since October. Washington State Amateur Champion Rob Rashell led the Huskies by carding an even par 72 on the Sunrise Course of Fort Bliss, finishing with 230, in a tie for fifth place. It was Rashell's season-best round and the sixth time in his career he has finished a tournament in the top-10. He was the only Husky to card three rounds in the 70s as windy conditions created higher than ususal scores. Senior Darren Slackman fired a solid 75 during Saturday's final round to finish in a tie for 23rd. Vanderbilt's Andy Bowers won the tournament with three round score of 225. Stanford, the only other Pac-10 squad in the tournament, finished seventh, three strokes behind Washington. COLLEGIATE MEN'S GOLF
