Men's Golf Third at UTEP Intercollegiate

 

Feb. 27, 1998

EL PASO, Texas -- The Washington men's golf team finished the first two rounds of the UTEP Intercollegiate in third place by carding 636, nine strokes behind leader Tulsa. All five of Washington's golfers are in the top-25 of the 45-player tournament.

The Huskies are led by the play of junior Rob Rashell who recorded a pair of 79s in the strong winds at Ft. Bliss Sunrise Gold Club in El Paso, Tex. Rashell is in a three way tie for seventh as the only Husky to score both rounds in 70s. Sophomore Scott Kral rests in a tie for 10th, two strokes back of Rashell at 160. Stanford's Joel Kribel leads all individuals after shooting a six-over-par 150.

Washington moved up to third place after firing 319 to Venderbilt's 321 in the second round. Washington finished the first round with a 317, one stroke back of Vanderbilt.

The tournament concludes with the the third and final round on Saturday.
