Christmas With The Huskies In San Antonio
Dec. 25, 2011
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - As Washington coach Steve Sarkisian likes to say, his favorite Christmas gift is to wake up on Dec. 25 and go to football practice.
Among other things, practice was on the schedule for Coach Sark and the Huskies on Christmas Day as the UW football team spent its second full day in San Antonio, where they'll face Baylor in the Valero Alamo Bowl on Thursday.
Washington held its second practice in the Alamo City Sunday, going through a Tuesday-style practice as they count backwards from their Dec. 29 game date vs. the Bears.
Afterwards, the entire travel party, including all of the players, coaches, support staff and their families traveled to Knibbe Ranch in Spring Branch, Texas, for a holiday party.
The team was treated to a terrific Texas-style dinner buffet highlighted by ribeye steaks and chicken, were given tours of the ranch by fifth-generation owner Chuck Knibbe, posed for photos with a longhorn steer and enjoyed skits performed by the various position groups.
Monday, the Dawgs return to work on the practice field, but will also take in the San Antonio Spurs' season-opener in the evening. Also scheduled are "media stunts" at SeaWorld San Antonio, where the Husky seniors will have a chance to interact with some of the animals, and a press conference featuring members of the Husky defense in the afternoon.
